23 Apps That Will Make You Smarter
Having fun with the apps installed on your smart phone is very common but some apps are developed with the aim of ‘Fun & Learn’. I have provided you with 23 such apps to make you smarter, resourceful and better than before. To make it even easier I have categorized the applications into 5 major categories. To make the best use of this post (that is to make yourself smarter) try to use at least 1 or 2 applications from each of the category.
Aptitude Building Apps:
These applications will help you develop your aptitude as these apps mainly focus on problem solving ability.
1. Elevate
This a perfect example of what all elements a brain train app should have. This app mainly works on your processing, concentration, brevity and mathematical skills. It also allows you to develop logic. This app records your scores in different activities and provides you with a daily report.
2. Luminosity
This app is much similar to elevate, it provides almost all the same features like processing, concentration, quantitative skills and language skill but both the apps differ a lot in their in-app purchases.
3. Brainwell Mind & Brain Trainer
This app is specially designed for kids, it provides more than 50 games developed scientifically to make kids smarter by providing them with the exercises mainly relating to mathematics and logic.
4. Peak
This app challenges your focus and vision and tries to improve you hand eye coordination as well. This app is similar to luminosity and elevate but again it differs when it comes to in-app purchases.
5. Vocabulary Builder
If you are preparing for exams like GMAT, GRE, TOFEL or CAT or some similar competitive exams where you need vocabulary then this app can help you develop the basics. It provides you with different words daily and also tests you on daily basis along with tracking your performance. It provides three different levels for building vocab.
6. Volt
There is not much difference between Volt and Vocabulary builder as they fall under the same category. Most of the times people keep one of the two in their devices, but I would heavily recommend that instead of going for one, keep both. That way you would be able to learn twice as much.

Here’s a bunch of applications which will allow you to stay updated with current affairs and will also provide you recommendations about important reading stuff.
7. TED
This is undoubtedly the best application for anyone who stays curious, who likes to know about new and innovative things happening in this world. This app basically provides many TED talks in one app. The ‘Surprise Me’ feature of this app is great, it provides you with famous random videos according to the time you are ready to invest in watching a video.
8. Flipboard
This app is nothing but a magazine which you can customize according to your choices. It includes almost all the happening news and blogs. If you have read my previous articles I have mentioned this app a few times but this isn’t my personal bias towards this app, it is actually that good.

9. Feedly
Almost similar to flipboard but this app is completely based on RSS feeds whereas with flipboard you have to upload your stuff yourself. Basically if you are a reader both the apps are same to you, it’s just the matter that which one do you like to use more based on user experiences.
10. Inshorts
If you like news to be short and precise and just want to take an overview of the happening then download this app right now. What this app does is it provides you with news in 50 to 60 words and if you really are interested in knowing more about the same then you can always visit it source. One of my personal favourites it saves me a lot of time and at the same time allows me to keep myself updated.
11. Goodreads
First of all it is owned by Jeff Bezos, so you know that how cool it is. Now coming on to the services this application provides. It an application provides the best reviews for novels. According to me these are the most honest and transparent reviews you’ll ever get on internet. So don’t think much just download this app if you are a regular reader.
12. GK Current Affair SSC-IBPS-IAS
This is an India specific app so all the information you’ll get in the app will mainly related to Indian current affairs. This an application developed by Onlinetyari which mainly focuses on improving your general knowledge if you are preparing for some exams which test your GK then this app might help you build the base. It also provides E-pubs and PDF for further reading.

E-Learning Apps:
As the name suggests the following category will comprise of applications which help you in learning online and the good thing is that many good courses available for free which definitely are worth trying.
13. Coursera
A very famous portal for online learning, it provides you 1000+ courses in variety for subjects. Many big names such as Harvard Business School, Indian School of Business etc also put up their courses time to time, if you are lucky enough sometimes they also launch free courses. There are many courses which provide education and if you like the course then you can pay and move on to learn the advance material which provides you with certifications as well.
14. Udemy
Udemy and Coursera are almost similar on the basis of their concepts still there are few differences. Udemy also provides a certificate for completing every course and the number of courses available for free are comparatively higher (many times not every time). So if you are new to e-learning I would suggest you to begin with free courses and then move on to paid ones.
15. Udacity
Again it provides online courses but mainly focuses on technological courses. Great courses are available and many are available at low-cost while some are available for free as well. The major announcement which Google made recently is that it would provide its basic courses for free.
16. Khan Academy
Khan academy is very different from the above mentioned apps focusing on various courses whereas this app tries to teach online. It has videos that teach different concepts of Economics, Mathematics, Trigonometry, Biology, Physics etc. So if you are in school or you are pursuing graduation this might be of great help.
Games (I know you like them):
This is the part where actually ‘fun and learn’ concept gets realized. Make sure you try out each and every one of these mentioned below.
17. 2048
A simple mathematical game which will increase your strategic thinking and also make you more organized as a person. The challenge in this game is to reach to the number 2048 just by adding tile in the power of 2. But in my opinion, the real challenge of this game is to reach 4096 (a level above normal). Do check out this game even if you don’t find it amazing by the description.
18. QuizUp
This is a game which has quiz on virtually every topic, you can challenge your friends or play online with random people both the ways it is fun and I am 100% sure once you start to win this games will become an addiction.
19. Stock Trainer
This is my favourite from this lot. What stock trainer does is that it provides real market data and fluctuations if you are new to stock trading or just want to learn how to trade in stocks then this a great application for you. I would recommend you to have a basic idea about how trading takes place in your country to make this game more interesting.

Yes it is very well-known that sudoku is something that will definitely make you a more logical thinker and also increase your memory. But many people face problems in solving sudoku itself. So this app allows you to start from very easy puzzles and also teaches you how to solve it if you are unaware of the rules.

21. Fit Brain Trainer
This is a brain train app presented as game and it focuses on you memory and problem solving. It provides 12 games which will help you becoming smarter.
Language Learning:
If you think that learning a new language is difficult for you, then these are the apps you need to surely try.
22. Duolingo
As the category suggests, Duolingo allows you to learn languages completely free it provides many languages to choose from and most of the popular languages are available on this platform. It also provides specialized apps for certain languages.
23. Learn Languages: Rosetta Stone
Almost similar to duolingo but it provides 24 languages to learn from and according to some users it’s more pictorial as compared to duolingo. Although I prefer duolingo, some also choose this one.
